On 3rd August, 2008 11 years old Jimmy Brodzeli swam 3400 meters across the “Tbilisi Sea” ( Tbilisi water storage) using “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri”. He swam 1 hours, 49 minutes and 45 seconds.

Famous actor Kakhi Kavsadze became the winner of the tournament

The second traditional competition in swimming style “Rachuli” (Rachian) among old people was held on June 29, 2008 at sports complex “Laguna Vere”. The competition was held in the context of “Longevity week” organized by international association “ 930”.

Results: the first place was taken by famous actor Kakhi Kavsadze, the second by – 79 years old engineer-builder Shalva Kvintradze, the third by – 72 years old engineer Givi Gadelia, the fourth by – doctor Aglaia Kveselava (the first among women) and the fifth by – 72 years old economist Tamaz Kvernadze.

Holders of the first, second and third places were awarded diplomas and turtle statues gemmed with Svarovski jewels (the symbol of longevity and wisdom) by the president of association Mari Malazonia. Other participants were awarded special prizes.

The second traditional Tbilisi Sea group swimming using “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri” was held

The second traditional Tbilisi Sea group swimming using “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri” was held on August 30, 2007. The participants of this swimming were the pupils of “Laguna-Vere”. The first place was taken by 13 years old Irakli Shengelia (37 minutes and 53 seconds), who has improved last year’s results (40.47.00).

The swimming was dedicated to the fifth year after the fact, when on August 30,2002 the Dardanelles Strait was swam across using old Georgian military-training style; “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri”.

The competition was held under the aegis of The Department of Sport and Youth affairs of Georgia (D.Namgalauri), Municipal service of Tbilisi social service and culture (M. Katsarave, Z. Dolidze), Sport-complex “Laguna-Vere” (V. Khundzakishvili), The sponsor of this swimming was the Company of Georgian Oil (R. Salukvadze), City Administration’s service for special situations (T. Giorgadze) and The seaside defenders association of Georgia “Aeetes”.

   On September 15, 2006 at the Film House of Tbilisi was held 60 years jubilee of Henry KUPRASHVILI. The celebration was conducted by the League of Chokha-wearer Knights of all Georgia (chief Gogi DOLIDZE).

Revival of the Georgian soul’s power

  Zaza Dolidze, chief of Tbilisi City Hall’s sport and tourism city service, Dimitri DUNDUA, the president of association of Georgian public games and national styles of sport, the chief of t he league of Chokha-wearer knights of all Georgia, Gogi DOLIDZE and others prized the winners with medals, diplomas and different prizes.

  The competition was dedicated to the fourth year after the fact of Henry KUPRASHVILI’S swimming across the Dardanelles strait by “Kolkhuri” on August 30, 2002.

Open Championship in Georgian style of swimming “Lazuri”

On May 12, 2006 was held an open championship in Georgian style of swimming Lazuri.This competition was held under the aegis of  the assosiation of Georgian public games and national styles of sport (president Dimitri Dundua) and the City administration’s municipal service of sport and tourism.

      The winners on 50,100 and 500 meters distance swimming were awarded diplomas and medals. In spite of these, the winner among boys on 500 meters distance, Irakli Shengelia was awarded digital camera. The winner was invested with the prize by the citizen of Turkey, lazian Sedat Shahinkai, in the name of International center of Kolkhian culture.The winner among girls Nastia Grivach was awarded colour TV. The prize was invested to her by George Dolidze in the name of “All Georgian Leage of Knigets in the Chokha“.

      Demonstrative swimmings were held in other styles of Georgian swimming (“Okribula”, “Apkhazuri”, “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri”, “Iberiuli”, “Kiziquri”, “Khashuruli”, “Takhvia”). Georgian water game “Tsqalrkineba” (Menchurua) was shown to the public too.

     The composer Merab Mamulishvili has worked on Lazian motives and wrote “Lazian march” for this championship. The march was sounded that day for the first time.

Kolkhuri spreads its wings

At sport complex Laguna-Vere by Vladimir Goiashvili’s effort the unique Georgian styles of swimming: Lazuri, Okribula, Iberiuli, Apkhazuri, Kiziquri, Takhvia and “Hands and feet bound Kolkhuri” that are revivaled by Henry Kuprashvili officially take part in process of training.
   Dimitri Dick, of German origin, is the first Georgian instructor that has actively applied Georgian styles of swimming in process of training of professional swimmers at the base of the Sport complex Laguna-Vere. In his opinion Georgian style of swimming is specific and develops the system of muscles that will play an active role in perfection of classic styles of swimming. He hopes that swimmers trained by this method will succeed in classic styles that are in horrible condition in Georgia.

Competition, which has no analogs in hystory

On june 7, 2004 Henry Kuprashvili’s pupils made a representative compettion in “Lazuri” (Lazian sport style) and in “Hand’s and feet bound Kolkhuri” (Kolchian military-training style)

Pupils of Demirel college (Çaglar educational institutions in Georgia) were taking part in 25 and 50 meters distance competition which took place in Tbilisi, in sportcomplex “Laguna-Vere” , they were: Sopo Giorgadze, Lasha Vashakidze, Mariam Zuliashvili, Zura Kakhetelidze, Otar Nikuradze, Tornike Chincharauli and Mirza Chincharauli. In period of their training (36 trainings) Henry Kuprashvili used Georgian training styles, reconstructed by himself, which were: “Iberiuli” (Iberian), “Apkhazuri” (Abkhazian), “Okribuli”, “Takhvia”, “Kiziquri” and “Khashuruli”. In contrast to traditional swimming style common abilities of particular and unique Georgian swimming styles are: specific technic of swimming and breathing, fixed/motionless condition of hands while swimming and generation of distinctive hydrodynamic resistance
